Tom Singer, Attorney at Law
Born and raised in northern Wyoming, and educated at Eastern Montana College and Harvard Law School, Tom Singer has been handling trial and appellate litigation for businesses both large and small, for state and local government agencies, and for individuals for more than 30 years. He has settled hundreds of cases, and tried the couple dozen that didn’t settle. He has a diverse practice. He defends product liability claims against manufacturers and distributors of anything from medical devices to heavy machinery. He defends trucking and transportation companies. He pursues and defends business litigation, including claims alleging breaches of contracts and covenants not to compete, bad faith, infringement of copyrights and trademarks, and misappropriation of trade secrets. He represents partners, shareholders, and other owners of ranches and small businesses when disputes arise among the owners. And he represents both employers and employees concerning allegations of wrongful termination, discrimination, workplace harassment, and wage payment violations, as well as counseling employers about how to avoid being sued by disgruntled employees.
Tom’s skills as an advocate have been recognized with an “AV” rating from Martindale-Hubbell, a Fellowship with Litigation Counsel of America, and designations as a “Best Lawyer in America” in Product Liability Defense and a “Super Lawyer” in Business Litigation.
Tom has served on the faculty for the International Association of Defense Counsel Trial Academy, Gonzaga Law School, and Rocky Mountain College. Tom is regularly invited to speak by ALFA International, the State Bar of Montana’s Professional Committee, and others on topics such as legal ethics, employment law, covenants not to compete, product liability, civil procedure, and trial advocacy. Tom also has written a number of articles for law reviews and bar journals.
In his community, Tom currently chairs the boards of both the Riverstone Health Clinic and the Northwest College Alumni Association. Tom also chairs the Symphony’s Artistic Advisory Committee and interviews the Symphony’s guest artists as the host of “Concert Cues.” Tom is a former director of Billings Symphony Orchestra & Chorale, Billings Depot, Inc., Billings Preservation Society, Red Lodge Music Festival, NAMI-Billings, Tumbleweed Runaway Program, and Billings Studio Theatre.
Tom relaxes by reading, hiking, riding bikes, paddling rivers, acting in community theatre productions, playing guitar, and singing with the Symphony Chorale and the High Plains Chamber Singers. He lives in Billings with his wife, Evey LaMont, who is a certified transition and retirement coach. They have four grown children and two grandchildren.
