Montana’s most comprehensive labor and employment law seminar was co-chaired again this year by Tom Singer of Axilon Law Group and Marilee Duncan of Felt Martin Frazier & Weldon, PC. The seminar convened in Billings on March 13 and 14 for the ninth time, giving lawyers and human resource professionals for public and private employers an opportunity to learn best practices from a highly qualified faculty.
Among the faculty was Jill Gerdrum, from Axilon’s Missoula office. Using her experience conducting workplace investigations and defending employers in wrongful discharge, discrimination, unemployment, wage and hour, and computer fraud litigation, Gerdrum presented a survey of developments in employment law, including decisions of Montana and federal courts, and recent EEOC guidance concerning criminal background checks.
Later in the conference, Tom Singer joined Karen Palmer of LMG Security to make a presentation they call “OOPS! How Did We End Up in Court, and What Do We Do Now?” Singer and Palmer offered a primer on preparing for and managing litigation in an employment case, with special focus on the proliferating uses, abuses, and misuses of information technology.
