AT WORK
Gary Hermann is a successful practicing attorney with more than 30 years of experience providing multifaceted representation of clients in a number of disciplines, including civil and commercial litigation, product liability and toxic torts, and insurance coverage, drug and medical device defense. Mr. Hermann also represents clients with regard to business organizations, contracts and other transactional matters.
IN THE PROFESSION
Mr. Hermann is an active member of many legal and industry associations, including the Montana Bar Associations (Construction Law Committee), the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (former Vice Chairman, Products Liability Section), the Defense Research Institute, and ALFA International (Steering Committee-Insurance Law Practice Group).
In the past, Mr. Hermann has been a regular contributor to industry and legal journals and other publications, writing on a variety of legal topics. While in law school, he was the Associate Editor of the Northwestern University Journal of Criminal Law. Some of Mr. Hermann's articles include "The Consumer Expectation Test: Application of a Difficult Standard for Determining Defects" (Federation of Insurance and Corporate Counsel Quarterly, Winter, 1991) and "Use of Consent Judgment in Insurance Coverage Disputes" (For the Defense, Defense Research Institute, 1982).
Mr. Hermann has been a regular speaker before legal and industry groups on such topics as "Conducting Voir Dire in a Medical Products Liability Case," "Techniques for the Use of a Toxicologist in a Toxic Tort Case," "The Use of Consent Judgments in Litigation," and "Case Evaluation Using Actuarial Studies of Jury Verdicts." He has also served as an adjunct instructor at Hiram College.
Mr. Hermann has received Martindale-Hubbell's "AV" rating for legal ability and ethics, the highest possible rating awarded by this nationally recognized, peer-reviewed rating system. As a result of his past practice in Ohio, he was selected as one of Ohio's "Super Lawyers" by Law and Fact and Cincinnati magazines.
IN THE COMMUNITY
Mr. Hermann has been actively involved in a number of volunteer activities, many of which have been related to youth sports instruction and coaching ice hockey. As a longtime martial artist and 4th degree black belt in Taekwondo, he also has taught Taekwondo, Tai Chi, Xing-yi and Ba-gua, originally as a senior instructor at the Oriental Martial Arts College and currently as a Tai Chi/Chi Kung instructor in Big Sky, Montana.
Mr. Hermann has also served on a board at Notre Dame College and has advised Montana associations regarding land-use issues.
