Susan Ridgeway

Susan has 25 years of experience in the legal profession. She concentrates her practice on commercial and family litigation and transactions. She is rated “AV” for legal ability and ethics by Martindale-Hubbell.

Susan has successfully obtained remedies for clients desiring to form, protect, or dissolve family relationships that lack legal recognition. An authority in Montana on assisted reproductive technology law, Susan has drafted various agreements and obtained numerous parentage orders for intended parents who used donated ova, sperm, or embryos or received assistance from a gestational surrogate.  Susan has also litigated to protect family rights arising out of relationships between same-sex couples and their children.

Susan also has significant experience handling construction, business, and property litigation and transactions. Her clients are construction contractors, property developers, condominium associations, small business owners, physicians, and health care professionals.

A solid foundation in commercial law compliments Susan’s handling of complex valuations and divisions of businesses, retirement assets, and real property assets in the family law arena.

Susan has the experience to meet her clients’ needs. She worked as a judicial law clerk at the Washington State Court of Appeals in Seattle, as a Washington State Assistant Attorney General in Spokane, and as an associate with the law firm of Datsopoulos, MacDonald & Lind, P.C. in Missoula.  She then ran her own law practice for fifteen years before joining Axilon Law Group, PLLC.

Susan is a member of the American Bar Association, its Family Law Section and its Assisted Reproductive Technologies Committee. She is also a member of the Family Law Institute of the National LGBT Bar Association.   She speaks at legal education conferences organized by the Montana State Bar or by the American Bar Association and as a guest lecturer at the University of Montana School of Law.

Active in community affairs, Susan is a current board member of Friends of Missoula Parks, Inc., and a past board member of Missoula City Parks and Recreation, Blue Mountain Clinic, and Missoula Community School. She has served as a writing coach and on policy committees for Missoula County Public Schools and as a team manager, assistant coach, or referee for Missoula Strikers Soccer Association.  Susan enjoys cycling, mountain biking, and playing ice hockey with friends.
