Jill Gerdrum

AT WORK

Jill Gerdrum is a partner in the firm’s Missoula office. She has handled many civil and commercial litigation matters for local clients and for clients from throughout the United States and abroad. Jill has experience representing clients in Montana’s state and federal courts and before state administrative agencies. Jill also works with businesses on internal employment matters, international law issues, and various other business matters. Prior to establishing her law practice, Jill was Montana’s Deputy State Auditor. In that position, she oversaw the state’s regulation of the insurance and securities and was the chief of staff of the State Auditor’s Office. During law school Jill did a clinical internship for Magistrate Judge Leif B. Erickson in the United States District Court for the District of Montana.

IN THE PROFESSION

Jill is a member of the American Bar Association, the Montana State Bar, the Women’s Law Section of the State Bar, the Federal Practice Section of the State Bar, and the Western Montana Bar Association. She is also a frequent contributor to publications regarding Montana law. She co-authored the ABA Commercial Transportation Litigation Committee’s guide to Montana’s complex law regarding joint and several liability and contributory negligence, and co-authored the Montana section of the 2008 and 2012 ALFA International Employment Law Compendia. Jill has also taught several employment law and discrimination law seminars throughout Montana.

Jill’s experience includes the defense of numerous product liability cases in state and federal court, the representation of multiple pharmacies in claims filed in state and federal court and in matters before the Montana Board of Pharmacy, the representation of a large Dominican Republic company in a multi-million dollar contract dispute, and the representation of many large and small business in employment related matters.  Jill has also been engaged by the State of Montana as a contract attorney and appointed to serve as an administrative hearings examiner.

Jill is the recipient of Martindale-Hubbell’s “BV” rating for legal ability and ethics, a widely respected mark of achievement for a young lawyer.  She was recognized by Super Lawyers as a 2014 “Rising Star” in the Mountain States region.

IN THE COMMUNITY

Jill has been active on community boards in Missoula and Helena including a term as vice-chair of Child Care Resources board of directors and as a member of the Myrna Loy Center board of directors. She also continues to be involved in her family’s ranch in Grass Range, Montana.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, Jill was active in Montana politics. In 1991 she served as a United States Senate page and attended the U.S. Senate Page School located in the attic of the Library of Congress. During college Jill worked full-time on Senator Baucus’ 1996 re-election campaign. And after undergraduate school, she went on to work as a campaign manager to many Montana politicians including now U.S. Senator Jon Tester.
